Cliff
Hintson, Media Specialist

Mr. Hintson, a native of
Greenville
, has a background in both music and media. Before graduating from
Furman
University
with a Bachelor of Music degree, he played for the Greenville Symphony and Furman Orchestra
and worked in the Furman library. After
graduation, he taught strings for the Charleston Public Schools and played with
the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. In 1978, Mr. Hintson moved to
Bradenton, Florida where he served as orchestra director at
Manatee
High School. He returned to teach strings in
Charleston
, where he founded and conducted the Charleston Prep Orchestra.
After working for the postal service in
Charleston, Mr. Hintson taught strings at
South
Florence
High School
in Florence
,
S.C.
He also was a cellist,
music librarian, personnel manager and stage manager for the Florence Symphony and taught Florence District One’s
Musically Enriched (DOME) students.
After earning a Master of Library and Information Science degree from the
University
of
South Carolina
in 1994, he worked at
St. John’s
Elementary School
in
Darlington
, where he was a finalist for the district’s teacher of the year.
As media specialist at
Mayo
High School
for Math, Science, and Technology, Mr. Hintson helped develop its new state-of-the-art media center and later assumed the duties of technology
coordinator and network administrator for the school. He also taught television
reporting, nonlinear digital editing and animation.
Returning to
Florence
, Mr. Hintson divided his time between teaching strings and working as a media
specialist. He was one of three honor roll teachers for the district in
2002.
Mr. Hintson is married to a high school English teacher, Maryanne. They have
one son, Jamie. Mr. Hintson likes to travel, explore new technologies, collect coins, and spend time
with his family.
